It’s funny isn’t it – someone can ask you what you did over the festive season and you’re hard pushed to remember, so imagine how difficult it was thinking back over a whole year.
Once we started recalling the past twelve months, we then had an even harder task of whittling the list down to our 17 hot picks (y’know, to celebrate 2017… see what we did there?)
We hope you enjoy our nostalgic look back over what’s been a pretty epic year and we also hope you have lots to celebrate from the past year too.
Very special thanks must go to all our lovely clients and to all of those we have collaborated with or that have referred clients or projects to us – we are truly appreciative and look forward to working with you in 2018!
1. Branding Exeter’s prime piece of real estate
It was such a huge privilege to be commissioned to create the branding for such a prominent and important renovation project, special thanks to our long-standing client, Burrington Estates, for giving us such a wonderful project. We set about using the Cathedral as inspiration, echoing architectural details in the design. We cannot wait for the official launch of the development in 2018.
2. Helping communicate big ideas
Keeping on the property theme, we were also very proud to partner our client, Grenadier, to help deliver three public consultation events on the proposals for the Exmouth Water Sports Centre. This involved strategic PR, media relations, community engagement, the creation of a bespoke website for the development and the marketing collateral. An intense but rewarding project, we are looking forward to seeing how it unfolds this year.
3. Immense PR coverage for fab food festival
October has become one of our favourite months and that’s mainly down to being able to promote one of the region’s best-loved foodie events, Powderham Food Festival. For the third year running, we’ve worked closely with the organisers to ensure they hit all target publications – from crafting the story, pitching it in, to managing the photoshoot. Oh, and not to mention sampling as many delights as possible while at the event (for research purposes of course!)
4. Flexing our creative muscles with a quirky direct mail campaign – anyone for a game of cards?
After speaking with our client LWC SW we were given the challenge of devising ways to engage and inform their customers about their extensive range of drinks products. The customers we were targeting were pub owners, so we came up with the ideas of placing the top 52 products onto a pack of cards!
5. Christmas giveaway causes a big stir on social media
It is fair to say that we love social media, especially when we see it having such a positive impact on our clients. A campaign that really highlighted how this medium can be used to build profile was through “Burrington Estates 12 days of Christmas”. We reached over 50,000 users on Facebook, with retweets on Twitter hitting almost 7,000 users. 400 Instagram followers interacted with the campaign too.
6. Stream of branding projects for property developments
Wow – what a year it has been for the design team. We have seen them work their magic on several branding projects for the property sector, many of which are going live in the New Year so we look forward to walking around the city and seeing our designs in all their glory on hoardings, in gorgeous brochures and online too.
7. Promotions and new recruits
Existing team members, Sarah and Ally, have had a fab year and were duly rewarded with well-earned promotions. Sarah is now Head of Design and has just recruited her first full time member of staff to further boost the support we offer to clients. Ally has been promoted to Senior Account Executive and she will be working closely with Christina March who will be joining us in the New Year.
8. Website Wonders
Websites continue to be high on the agenda for many of our clients and we are proud to have created another stream of websites again this year, including Emma Solely, URBN Construction and LWC SW and LWC Cornwall. We are looking forward to soon going live with Salt & Land, MEP, Komputrade and Expedite – keep your eyes peeled!
9. Video triumphs
One of our biggest wins this year has been helping clients create stunning videography. From a mini promotional style advert celebrating Christmas trees grown here in Devon, to celebrating the marvels of homemade ice-cream. The videos have received a lot of attention online and both clients were thrilled with the outcome. Take a look.

10. Giving something back
We are super pleased to have partnered with our chosen charity again this year, the brilliant Exeter YMCA, and have two highlights we’d like to share; the transformation of the resident’s lounge (with help from our very special friends Wilkinson Grant, Expedite, Burrington Estates and Naomi Cleaver) and also helping to raise money by completing the Great West Run.
11. Client launches specialist hearing centre in Dawlish
We have a penchant for launch events – it’s a combination of the excitement around launching something new and also seeing the results or impact this has. Last year, we were delighted to launch Chime’s 16th centre in Devon.
12. Exeter goes curry crazy
Working with long-standing client, Denley’s Essence of India, we pulled together an event filled with Exeter’s VIPs to showcase the restaurant’s recent refurbishment. Creating a stir both on and offline, Denley’s is well and truly on the map as the city’s favourite curry house.
13. London calling
We kickstarted the New Year offering integrated communications support to a group of restaurants with a presence in Exeter, London & Bath. From email marketing to social media, design and strategy, the Splendid Restaurant Group accessed the whole kit and caboodle. We were also fortunate enough to win London-based Michelin star restaurants, Lima.
14. ‘Prost’ to new themed pub – BierKeller
At this venue it’s all about the lederhosen and oompah band as we helped launch Exeter’s first Bierkeller. A raucous launch event helped spread the word which was backed up by social media marketing.
15. Appointed for multi-million pound property development in Ivybridge
Excitement is building in our team as we work with Burrington Estates to deliver the marketing communications around a significant development in Ivybridge – the transformation of a historic paper mill. Again, this is using a combination of our skills, with branding already in full swing, PR soon to follow and web development underway. Watch this space!
16. Ship, Ship, Hooray!
We were commissioned by The Ship in Plymouth to help communicate Sitel becoming tenants in its recently refurbished premises. Creating 400 jobs for the city, this story was picked up by radio, TV, online and print media.
17. The icing on our 2nd birthday cake
We wanted to end on what we believe is one of the most significant things to be cherished and celebrated – the relationships we have with our clients and friends in and around the city (and further afield). Every day we are reminded of the power and value of these and we are so thankful for the support shown to our agency.
